Investigators Examine Links In

Home Invasion Homicide & Suicide

Clinton Roberts, 23

Homicide Victim

The investigation is continuing today following a home invasion and traffic accident early Sunday morning in Limestone County, that resulted in 2 deaths.

Deputies were called to 16134 Huntsville-Brownsferry Road in the Reid Community at 1:21 am, Sunday morning. The 911 caller identified herself as Tiffany Sharp, 22 year old girlfriend of Clinton Douglas Edward Roberts, 23, of the same address. Ms. Sharp stated both were in bed asleep when they heard someone kicking the back door of the residence. As Roberts arose to investigate, he was met in the doorway of the bedroom by the subject who had entered their residence. The assailant immediately shot Roberts in the head with a 12 gauge shotgun. The assailant fired two more rounds into the victim on the floor. The assailant turned and exited the residence and fled the scene. Sharp described the assailant as male, wearing dark shorts and a grey shirt.

After the arrival of investigators and crime scene personnel, the Sheriff’s Office was alerted by Clements Fire Department paramedics to a wreck they were responding to on Snake Road near Poplar Creek. The accident involved one vehicle that had left the roadway and struck a power pole. Upon approaching the vehicle, paramedics discovered the lone occupant wearing dark shorts and a grey shirt, to have sustained a single gunshot wound to the head while in the vehicle following the wreck.

Investigators have identified the victim of the apparent suicide as 23 year old Terence Turneal Gilbert, 13873 Monarch Way, Athens. Witnesses have indicated that Gilbert is suspected of taking the shotgun from a relative earlier in the day, and having indicated that he intended to harm himself and others, including Roberts.

Gilbert has recently been dating Lashell Roberts, the former common law wife of Roberts, and the Robertses have been involved in a child custody dispute.

Investigators are awaiting autopsy results on both victims and have requested forensic testing on the shotgun and shell evidence from both scenes.
